Beckley VA Medical Center is a Joint Commission accredited, level II facility serving Veterans in 11 counties in southern West Virginia. The medical center opened its doors to Veterans on March 1, 1951, and today it is a 25-bed general medical/surgical and 5-bed intensive care facility with a 50-bed community living center. The community living center offers skilled nursing care, post-acute rehabilitation and restorative care, hospice, palliative care, and respite care for eligible Veterans.
The provider will evaluate and treat pulmonary conditions. Be an integral member of the Inpatient and ICU as well as function in an Outpatient pulmonary disease clinic. Have the ability to interpret pulmonary function tests (PFTs). Diagnose, treat, or recommend treatment for diseases of the respiratory system and breathing-related conditions. This specialist can provide care for many breathing-related conditions including asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, tuberculosis and work-related lung diseases and be an active participant of the Lung Cancer Screening Program. Must have critical care skills and provide inpatient treatment or recommendations of treatment through consultation to other providers in the ICU, ED or inpatient hospital setting and be willing to be on call for pulmonary issues during weekends, holidays, evenings and holidays on a preset schedule.
Duties include but not limited to:
Direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Provide diagnosis and treatment for adult patients presenting with conditions that are applicable to his/her practice, training, experience or current competence.
Provide treatment of pulmonary diseases and disorders in an outpatient setting, provide consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent need.
Evaluate and Treat sleep disorders based on Polysomnography if sleep certified
Interpret Pulmonary Function Tests
Perform minor procedures per credentialing and privileging approvals.
Perform Bronchoscopies
Order routine diagnostic imaging studies and labs.
Participate actively in performance improvement and attend assigned meetings or process action teams. Work collaboratively with other specialties.
Follow VA directives and polices and maintain current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and if required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Possess computer skills to access and input typed data on each patient into the computerized patient record system (CPRS).
Maintain a license to practice medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia

Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday, Subject to change depending on the needs of the service.
