The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS), is a leader in the provision of rural health care, opening its first VA-staffed community based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Farmington, New Mexico, followed by clinics in Artesia, Gallup, Raton, Silver City, Rio Rancho and Santa Fe. In recent years, the NMVAHCS has contracted with Valor Healthcare, Primary Care Solutions and Ben Archer Health Center to provide Veterans access to clinics throughout New Mexico and southwest Colorado. The NMVAHCS, Medicine Service is seeking a full-time Physician (Endocrinology). Incumbent will participate in various hospital committees, Medicine Service and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the Medicine Service, the hospital and the Academic Affiliate, University of New Mexico (UNM). Will also be involved in continuous quality improvement and the VA peer review process. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of endocrinologic medical care delivered to patients under their care. Provide or supervise fellows, residents, students and/or mid-level providers including Certified Diabetes Nurse Educations in the evaluation and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients. Evaluate the patient t assess changes in the physical and mental status during inpatient or outpatient care. Documentation of every encounter will be entered into the electronic medical record, with the appropriate level of detail, with an assessment and plan for acute and ongoing care. Any notes written by the fellow, resident, student or midlevel provider under endocrinology supervision are reviewed by the staff Endocrinologist, with corrections and additions added in an attending note, as appropriate and in a manner consistent with the VA guidelines for resident and trainee supervision. Be available for all urgent or emergent assessments requested from any location in the hospital or on-site outpatient clinics and services. An Academic Faculty appointment may be available through the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Medicine.
