Five Star Senior Living is a national provider of services for older adults and operates over 130 senior living communities, including independent living, assisted living and memory care communities, in over 30 states. We are looking for a talented and experienced individual to join our team as our National Director of Clinical Care. This role affords a truly singular opportunity to work closely with a team in building a world class experience for our residents, to honor and enrich their journey of life. The successful candidate will provide leadership, strategic vision, innovative design and management of clinical care operations across Five Star communities, based on the needs and preferences of current and future residents and enhancing the overall resident experience.
Reporting to the VP, Resident Experience, the National Director of Clinical Care will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to our field teams to deliver an amazing care experience, optimize efficiencies, develop talent and achieve desired metrics. This will include a holistic approach to the health and wellness of an aging population, and coordination with team members – both in the corporate setting and in the field – to champion an integrated approach to resident care and promote positive clinical outcomes.
Clinical Care Management The National Director of Clinical Care will ensure that clinical programs comply with all state and federal guidelines, as well as ensure clinical teams are complying with standards through continual education, coaching and updating company policies, federal, and other regulations.
Develop, plan, organize, implement, monitor and revise both current and future clinical strategies, to ensure appropriate clinical practices are maintained at the community level (policies/procedures, staff competencies, survey preparations, labor PPD’s standards) to deliver an exceptional, best-in-class care delivery model.
Design and develop the appropriate communication structure for clinical and leadership teams to identify and prevent: increases in re-admission rates, deviations in quality measures or variations in staff retention. Continuous communication with clinical staff concerning fall prevention, skin/wound management, resident safety, medication management, resident satisfaction and involvement of residents and families on service planning process.
Define and streamline clinical strategies and various activities to achieve maximum utilization of staffing and company resources.
Lead clinical quality and process-improvement efforts through the tracking, trending and evaluating of clinical data to recognize clinical excellence and identify areas of opportunity.
Interface with cross-functional teams to provide strategic and operational support for providers including technology and communication.
Work closely with appropriate leadership team members to develop and implement clinical guidelines and policies for companywide implementation.
Provide support to senior leadership with preparation of necessary Board materials and presentations.
Create measurable guidelines for clinical expectations in resident care integrating both family and the interdisciplinary team to reach resident satisfaction goals.
Review and revise processes and assessment with department heads to provide improvements to the quality processes.
Participate in annual strategic planning, talent planning and financial planning processes.
Anticipate future needs and opportunities for the company, ensure the organization’s sustainability, balance risk and innovation.
Provide visibility into key performance indicators that drive an excellent resident experience.
Create and execute against a roadmap of key deliverables that both advance the business as well as support the overall success of the organization.
Provide for all team members strong day-to-day leadership presence and support an open-door policy among all team members.
In collaboration with Human Resources, perform staffing selections and related management functions. Ensure staffing decisions reflect the company’s culture and ability to successfully achieve strategic goals.
Develop, implement and monitor performance measures and standards for the clinical team to incorporate into performance reviews.
Ensure that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.

Act as liaison between community, divisional and home office teams.
Effectively handle follow up issues with families, residents as requested.
Conduct regular monthly and periodic meetings with Directors of Clinical Services and other key leadership team members: infection control, clinical practice standards, antibiotic stewardship, medication management, key quality outcomes and other applicable standards of practice.
Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director concerning clinical care strategy and implementation.
Demonstrate active listening techniques, seeks feedback, creates and maintains reporting mechanisms, gains support through effective relationships, and treats others with dignity and respect.
Create and deliver professional presentations.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Graduate of an accredited BSN program, MSN preferred.
A current, unrestricted RN license.
5+ years of regional/divisional or corporate healthcare leadership experience.
3-5 years of senior living experience.
Expert clinical and critical thinking skills.
Ability to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal relationships and the application of sound administrative principles.
Strong leadership acumen in setting company directions and aligning strategic goals around business plans. Superior judgment, negotiation and decision-making skills.
Must have the ability to create protocols and streamline processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.
A track record working in a fast-moving, high growth environment.
Strength to be a change agent capable of leading and coaching staff toward the future.
Ability to effectively guide the organization and clinical teams in implementing various change management initiatives.
An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral, written and persuasive skills.
Strong computer skills and proficient in using Microsoft productivity tools and software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Windows 10, etc.).
