Applicants should have a strong record of recent accomplishments as an established faculty member. Applicants should have expertise in research fields related to diseases affecting older adults. The Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Center for Aging and Health support excellence in clinical care, education and research. The UNC School of Medicine is ranked #1 in Primary Care by US News and World Report. The University of North Carolina is ranked 5th in the United States for federal research funding.
Faculty clinical opportunities include work in our interdisciplinary, award-winning Geriatrics Specialty Clinic, multiple continuing care retirement communities, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home care, and Acute Care of the Elderly Inpatient Service. Our unique educational programs are supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration funded Carolina Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, the Duke Endowment, the Moore Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute on Aging. Research training programs include the NIA funded T-35 Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) program and T-32 program in Geriatric Oncology.
Clinician-investigators will find rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research on our unique 5-school Health Affairs campus (Schools of Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work, and Medicine).
